Tao Authentic Asian Cuisine is not new in Penang. There are two branches here at E-Gate and Autocity respectively. There are reviews around saying that Autocity one is better. We were in the island and to avoid traffic jam on bridge we choose the one in E-Gate for our dinner.

Unfortunately, I was not able to take all the photos as some of them already consumed by my friends before I managed to take photo. The place is dark and I have to modify all of them before posting.

Basically, you order whatever you like to eat in the menu at RM50 per person. Forget about the price and screenshot next to each item as I found it not relevant. For example, Sashimi Moriawase which has the tag of RM40 looks like a sub RM20 quality food.  Some dishes worth trying are Motoyaki Scallop (one set = 3 pieces, usually we order 10 set or more), Wasabi Sary Abalone, and Thai Hamagari.

Of course, there are some slightly disappointing dishes, such as Thai Yam Spicy Squid which is too spicy, and Ika Dargo which tastes like meatballs selling in hypermarket out there.

It had been a while since we last met so we spend most time chatting. Sadly there are two sessions available in the evening: 6:30pm – 8:30pm and 8:30pm – 10:30pm. There are 10% discount from the RM50 buffet if you arriving before 6:30pm but we arrived slightly late due to traffic jam.

As mentioned, there are two sessions and we were asked for last call at 8pm and being “chased out” at 8:30pm. The host sent the bill even we didn’t ask for it. It is rushing and we even didn’t finished chatting.

As a whole, the food is okay but the service could be better. Depend on the food you order and your capacity, it may not worth the price.
