It is Chinese New Year again and it is time for Dragon-i to present their Treasure Pot 新春鲍鱼盆菜, both for dining in and take away. What’s more, you can take away the whole high quality steel pot in a nice looking chiller bag. All starting from just RM338++.  All you need to do back home is just to reheat before serving.

This is not the first time Dragon-i introducing Treasure Pot during CNY. Previous comments were the portion was a bit small but after trying it out this year, I would say it is much depended on whether or not majority of the diners are big eaters.

Xiao Long Bao 小笼包

Of course, you are always welcomed to order some side dishes, such as the famous signature Xiao Long Bao 小笼包.

There are two types of Treasure Pots, each with slightly different ingredients and broth (those highlighted below indicate ingredients specially for the particular Treasure Pot):

It is actually quite easy to different them – one with prawns on top and one without. The one we tried was RM388++ version and it turned out to be exceptionally well. A proper way to consume Treasure Pot is to begin from top, layer by layer. Do not dig ingredients at the bottom. The broth will get tastier toward the end and the ingredients below (usually some vegetables) will get juicier. The broth is refillable for dining in.

  7. Dried Oysters and Black Moss and Sautéed Mushroom with Five Treasure Vegetables 鲍鱼菇五宝蔬

Raw Salmon Fish with Jelly Fish Yu Sheng

We managed to try the first three items. Raw Salmon Fish with Jelly Fish Yu Sheng is made with colourful Chinese delicacies together with fresh raw salmon fish, poured over with their specialty sauces. It was one of the best Yu Sheng we tried for this year thanks to their fresh ingredients including pomelo, jelly fish, pickled garlic and so on. Seven of us actually finished one “oversized” (more than 1 portion) Yu Sheng probably due to hungriness.

The Yu Sheng is available in two sizes:
1/2 portion: RM48++
1 portion: RM68++

Fried Glutinous Rice with Waxed Meat 生炒腊味饭

Fried Glutinous Rice with Waxed Meats – The fried glutinous rice with waxed meats is made with premium-quality fresh pork, fresh Grade Mushrooms and vegetables which will light up your taste buds.

Braised Pork Knuckle Shanghainese Style 横财就手

The pork knuckle is tender, juicy and sinful. Perhaps the only thing missing is some buns to dip with the gravy.

Dragon-i Hamper

Surprisingly, Dragon-i also has its own hamper for sale. Pricing-wise is RM350++. Some items you would expect are Chinese Pork Sausage, Supreme Liver Sausage, mushroom, pineapples shortcakes, pistachio, wine, and etc.

As a whole, both Yu Sheng and Treasure Pot are one of the best we tried for this year. Dragon-i is perhaps one of the more successful restaurant chain in Malaysia with 20 outlets and another one to be opened at Dataran Pahlawan, Malacca.
