It will be a busy July for Eastin Hotel Penangs chefs in which both Peranakan and Ramadhan buffet will be served for lunch and dinner respectively.

Peranakan Cuisine

During lunch hour, Eastin Hotel Penang will be serving Peranakan buffet with the distinctive blend of traditional ingredients with ethnic herbs and spices.

Deep Fried Chicken Lobak

Among Peranakan dishes to expect are such as Deep Fried Chicken Lobak.

Nasi Ulam

Nasi Ulam – a steamed rice dish mixed with various herbs.

Assam Prawn

Assam Prawn – Fried prawns in Tamarind sauce.

Inchi Kabin

Inchi Kabin – Deep fried chicken.

Jiu Hoo Char

Jiu Hoo Char – Fried shredded dry cuttlefish & vegetable.

Sup Gearbox

During the month of Ramadhan from 29-Jun-2014 to 27-Jul-2014, dinner will be changed from semi-buffet to full buffet for the best “buka puasa” experience with friends and families. Many live action stalls will be available and some of the famous one are such as roasted lamb and gearbox soup stations. Gearbox soup is made of bull’s knee joint and is usually stewed for more than 12 hours to soften the flesh and cartilage. It is an item hardly found in other hotels and many guests coming back to Eastin Hotel Penang each year just to eat it.

Ulam-Ulaman

Ulam-Ulaman is a must-have as long as appetizer is concerned. It consists of various raw vegetables to be dipped with Sambal Belacan.

Other appetizers include Gado-Gado – an Indonesian salad similar to Pasembor, Acar Buah – dried fruit pickles, Kerabu Nangka – jackfruit salad, and Kerabu Udang with So Hoon – glass noodle prawn salad.

During our food preview session, we were being introduced with some Ramadhan main dishes, including Udang Masala which tastes like Chinese’s “Kam Heong” prawns, Vegetable Dalca, Ayam Masak Merah, and Kambing Kerutuk Pantail Timur.

Seafood Bubur Lambuk

Bubur Lambuk is a famous dish during Ramadhan month in which the porridge is cooked together with herbs and vegetables. Eastin Hotel Penang’s one can be considered a “luxury” version in which generous amount of seafood are used to an extend that you feel yourself eating Seafood Chowder more than porridge itself.

Bubur Kacang Hijau & Red Velvet Cake

Tempting Malay desserts such as Bubur Kacang Hijau (Green Bean Soup), assorted Malay kuih, and Red Velvet Cake are also available.
