Ko-Fu Loft @ Gurney Plaza

Ko-Fu-Loft

Finally I can take a deep breath after submitting my thesis yesterday :worry: … but not too long before the presentation. Anyway, I enjoyed last weekend as I had an invited review to Ko-Fu Loft at Gurney Plaza with fellow food bloggers.

Ko-Fu Loft is actually using shop lots previously owned by Food Loft. I actually have some photos for Food Loft but now it seems too late to be shared :dissapoint: The new restaurant serves Chinese cuisine, including Dim Sum.

Let’s start with dim sum first. Their dim sums look nice and taste good in general. They are steamed on the spot and nicely presented. The skin texture looks nice as well. The price, however, is at expensive side. For example, both Har Kau and Siew Mai costs RM5.50++ each, while Minced Squid with Crab Claw Meat at RM6.90++. :wtf:

Luckily the fried dim sums are “not-so-expensive” and taste good as well. The Pandan Lotus Paste Dumpling and Yam Paste with Minced Pork cost RM4.50.

The Steamed Custard Creamy Bun (RM5.50++) also tastes nice, but somehow I feel that one of the competitors is slightly better.

We sure ordered quite a number of fried stuff. Five Spices Calamari (RM13.90++) tastes ok. The homemade bean curds (RM12.90++) are overfried, making it feel hard outside, soft inside. Seafood Emperor Noodle (RM12.90++) is tasteless…  Perhaps it is prepared at healthier side. Nothing special here anyhow.

Here are some appetizers, Ko Fu Sesame Seed Ball (RM10.90++) and Crystal Spring Roll Skin Stuff with Vege & Chicken Meat (phew~!) (RM6.90++). The Sesame Seed Balls are stuffed with meat but is tasteless without thousand island provided. The Crystal Spring Roll is actually a Vietnamese food, in which I tried it once in Food Loft. The chili sauce could be better.

Dessert of the day

Dessert of the day

The black pepper sauce in Jingdo Pork Ribs tastes good. The ribs, however, were difficult to chew. Not good for senior citizens. The dessert of the day which came last is :vomit: ! The coconut milk is not fresh and is watery.

Szechuan Aromatic Duck 四川香酥鸭

Szechuan Aromatic Duck 四川香酥鸭

The Szechuan Aromatic Duck (RM18.90++) is also just average. The duck meat is too dried and can’t feel the aroma. Instead of chopping them into equal slices, it is better to tear them into pieces.

All in 1 Roasted Meat with Vegetables 盆菜

All in 1 Roasted Meat with Vegetables 盆菜

Finally here is something to praise on – All in 1 Roasted Meat with Vegetables (盆菜) (RM19.90++). It is a claypot stuff with mushroom, abalone, honey-roasted chicken, broccoli, roasted pork, cabbage, etc and come with a rice. Rice, of course, is not enough for big tummy like me but at least worth the price. However, other foodies found that the cooking is not consistent. There were 3 set and each of them tasted differently. Luckily mine one is good.

As a whole, the resturant is yet able to differentiate itself from other competitors in the plaza. Whenever I walk pass this area, I wonder why another Hong Kong restaurant below is so crowded compared to this one. With more competitive price, better service (speaking about the service, I had to refill the teapot on my own that day, and there was no smile on the waitresses… is it too expensive to smile?), and more signature dishes, it could attract more customer.  Like bird cages hanging on the ceiling, hopefully Ko-Fu-Loft can fly out of it and become successful one day. Last but not least, I would like to show my greatest gratitude to Ko-Fu-Loft for the invited review.
