火烛啊~ My last BBQ party was during Chinese New Year, in which I was invited to be a “slave” of BBQ. My duty was to keep the fire burning  It was tiring but enjoyable. Recently there are few indoor BBQ restaurants opened in Penang and today I bring you to Chou Shun Kan (长春馆) at Krystal Point, Bayan Lepas. It is not a new restaurant, just that I am too busy to blog it (good excuse).
One disadvantage of dining at Krystal Point is the difficulty in finding parking space.
Unlike other restaurants which use electric or gas stoves, Chou Shun Kan uses charcoal stove. I prefer this one as the meat is usually tender and the taste is delight.
The restaurant serves pork. We ordered chicken and pork (pork brisket) BBQ set lunch, which priced at RM20++ per person.
The set lunch came with some side dishes, such as Kimuchi, salad, watermelon, seaweed soup, and a bowl of rice.
Compared to other BBQ restaurants in which hosts will help you BBQ, you have to do it yourself in this restaurant. This is not totally a bad thing. In fact, it is an enjoyable experience in which you will busy flipping the raw meat to ensure that it is evenly cooked.
To prevent the air-conditional room to become “smoking room”, there’s actually an exhaust pipe installed on each table and it will be turned on if you order BBQ stuff.
From experience, chicken takes more time to BBQ as it is thicker than pork. Perhaps the only bad thing is sometime you may over burn your food into “charcoal”.
Other than BBQ set lunch, the restaurant also offers bento rice sets, which usually come with vege, salad, Kimuchi, and dessert.
Taking Salmon Teriyaki (RM23.00++) for example, the portion is thick and the texture is nice. It was nicely grilled with BBQ sauce and topped with sesame.
If salmon is too much for you, you can try BBQ Chicken Dondori (RM11.90++), which is BBQ Chicken on top of rice with Kimuchi, soup, drink and watermelon.
Or you can also try with the BBQ pork version (RM11.90++).
Alternatively, you can order ramen set lunch which usually come with bean sprouts, pancake, drink, and watermelon as side dishes. I can’t really recall how this Kimuchi Ramen (RM15.90++) taste like as it was ordered by my friend.
This is the pancake came with the ramen. I like to put it into the bowl, let it absorb the soup, and eat it. It’s tastier in this way.
As a whole, having DIY BBQ is an enjoyable experience here. The charcoal makes the meat more delight and tender. Compared to a competitor nearby, the slices may be too thin and small to eat alone (that’s why it came with rice). This is a place to enjoy new dining experience rather than to fill your stomach.
