Some companies do have “buddy system”, in which newcomers will be assigned with a mentor who is usually one of the employees as well. Some companies also provide “buddy meal”, in which both mentor and newcomer are entitled for a meal with limited budget. Low pay and bad attitude workers like me usually don’t have buddy. “Thanks” to one of the meal participants who had other matter to attend, I was replacing him to join the buddy dinner at Bali Hai Seafood Market, Gurney Drive

When we first entered the restaurant, we were attracted by the seafood display at one end.

Basically, you can order your seafood over here.

Worker selecting lobsters

Worker selecting lobsters

Workers will help you selecting the seafood – including lobsters.

Geoduck/Panopea abrupta (象拔蚌)

Geoduck/Panopea abrupta (象拔蚌)

This huge stuff looks familiar… but more important, what is this? After goggling, it is a very large saltwater clam called Geoduck (象拔蚌). Don’t put the whole thing inside your mouth or else your mouth will remain opened for few days.

Frozen Lobsters

Frozen Lobsters

Other than living stocks, you can order frozen seafood as well, which was cheaper in general. For example, frozen lobster is RM24.00 per 100 grams while live lobster is RM28.80 (not much different IMO).

Let’s jump to our food (for more screenshots, refer to the end of this post). I like this Baked Cheese Oyster. The oysters were fresh and topped with cheese mixed with crab meat. One piece simply not enough.

House Special Fried Ocean Prawn

House Special Fried Ocean Prawn

The prawns in House Special Fried Ocean Prawn were fresh as well. Instead of just putting normal sweet and sour sauce, the chef put some minced celery and probably some oats into it as well. Unfortunately, the sauce was too salty. It would be better if taken with rice.

Talking about rice, we didn’t order rice that night, which would be nice if taken with this Sea Grouper Hong Kong Delicacies with Teow Chew Style. It was mini version compared to the one on the right.

Anyway, with so many seafood, we were almost full. Squids were little unfortunate that day as they became our food on the table. The Thai sauce was nice and was similar to the one in Eastern Wishes restaurant I visited few weeks back.

We also ordered big crabs and enjoyed hitting it (good especially after a tension working day). The Fried Meat Crab with Salted Egg was one of the specialty in this restaurant.

Stewed Garden Green With Mushrooms

Stewed Garden Green With Mushrooms

Having so many high cholesterol food, it is time for some veggie (seriously, it won’t help much… just self-convincing that we did take vegetable that night). The Stewed Garden Green with Mushrooms tasted good considering this is a seafood restaurant.

Seafood Fried Rice

Finally, here came the (fried) rice. The seafood fried rice tasted average. The addition of fish fillet into the fried rice is welcoming but I prefer not to have anchovies inside.

Longan Sea Coconut

Longan Sea Coconut

I was thirsty after having seafood and we ordered Longan Sea Coconut as our dessert.

Bali Hai Seafood Market

Bali Hai Seafood Market

As a whole, the restaurant (or market) offers variety of tasty seafood. The environment is cozy and parking space is provided behind the restaurant. It is good for once-in-a-while gathering. The price, however, can be at expensive side compared to other restaurants (we spent about RM1500 for 33 persons). It is expected anyway as it is located at Gurney drive, a tourist area.

Talking about cozy enviroment, take a look on their toilet. It even has air-conditional installed! Beh tahan.
