This year, Valentine’s Day comes earlier than Chinese New Year, which is also a good news. At least, you have no need to worry about body running out of shape when dining with your loved one. If you are looking for a place for romantic dinner or CNY Reunion Course Meal/Buffet Dinner, Eastin Hotel Penang – the famous business hotel at Bayan Lepas, Penang is worth considering.
Let’s begin with Valentine’s Day Semi Buffet for 2 persons. Semi buffet means that both appetizer and dessert are available as buffet, whereas main course is from the menu. As the starter, you will be served with Blue Crab and Green Apple Celery Panna Cotta Served with Baby Salad and Watermelon, Orange Salsa.
As for the soup, it is Cream of Agaricus Bisporus with Truffle Oil and Milk Espuma. This year, Eastin Hotel Penang is a bit creative in naming their food, such as replacing common name with scientific name. This soup is basically a mushroom soup.
As for the main course, there are two choices to choose from:
1) Oven Baked Gadus Fish with Squid Ink Sauce served with Pumpkin Puree and Vegetables. Gadus means cod fish. Squid Ink Sauce is pretty common in Italian and Spanish cuisines. For Asians, one may love it very much due to its antioxidant effect and high iron, or hate it very much due to the black color sauce resembling fountain pen ink.
2) Lamb of Rack served with Vegetables, Potato Souffle and Coriander Leaf Sauce. The lamb can be consumed on its own thanks to the minimal lamb gamey taste, or even better with chef’s special Coriander Leaf Sauce.
As for the desserts, they are Dark Layer Chocolate Mousse with Crumble and Spice Chiller Cheese Cake served with Berry Compote. Overall, Eastin Hotel Penang maintains its quality since we visited its Valentine’s Day Package two years ago. We tasted the same spicy cheesecake two years ago and even until now, it is still surprising many guests.
Behind the scene, Chef Fauzi Bin Ilias (right-most) is one of the chefs we met since we first visited Eastin Hotel Penang. The humble Sous Chef is recently awarded the “Most Outstanding Chef Award for 2014” in conjunction with the 27th Annual Dinner of the Chefs Association of Malaysia, Penang Chapter at Flamingo Hotel, Penang on 23rd Jan 2015.

Below are the menu for 8 Course Meal. The course meal will be held in a ballroom whereas buffet is at Swez Brasserie. Personally, it is much depended on personal preference on whether to go for course meal or buffet. Course meal is more traditional and is good for reunion chit-chat whereas buffet is more flexible.
