Eastern & Oriental (E&O) Hotel (GPS: 5.42361,100.33472), the grande dame of British colonial heritage hotels on Penang island has stepped up its dining experiences boasting a touch of heritage flair. We recently visited its “new old wing” for one-of-its-kind Nyonya/European meal.
Nearly 40 dishes on our table! We almost ordered all dishes in the menu during our visit to the new Richard Rivalee Nyonya restaurant (GPS: 5.43165,100.31221) recently. Note that we practiced zero waste in which we took leftover food home.
Wake up early in the morning during weekend and looking for breakfast in Penang island? Other than Dim Sum and coffee shops, there are not many choices especially if you are looking for a cozy cafe for a sip of coffee. Located few shops away from Da Shu Xia Seafood Restaurant 大树下海鲜饭店 at Victoria Street, Nyonya Delights Cafe (GPS: 5.41397,100.33947) is an accidental discovery and since then, we visited it three times for breakfast.
Previously located at Bangkok Lane near Pulau Tikus, Richard Rivalee – the fashion designer cum chef is now relocated to M Mall with more spacious dining environment, an event room, and more important, you can walk in 7 days a week for tantalizing Nyonya cuisine.
We can’t really remember when is our last time visiting Fort Cornwallis – a historical site nearby ferry terminal in Penang island. Recently, we had a chance to visit it, not for the sake of visiting cannons there, but a cafe hidden inside the park – namely Kota Dine & Coffee.

If there is one word to describe Nyonya restaurant in Penang, it is – “expensive”. The portion is usually small but charged at premium rate. Papa’s Nyonya House at Sunway Tunas is no exception with price starting from RM10 (Menu available at the end of this post). Fortunately, there is a set lunch menu which worth considering.
