Java Tree @ E&O Hotel
Eastern & Oriental (E&O) Hotel (GPS: 5.42361,100.33472), the grande dame of British colonial heritage hotels on Penang island has stepped up its dining experiences boasting a touch of heritage flair. We recently visited its “new old wing” for one-of-its-kind Nyonya/European meal.
Deli Menue @ Karpal Singh Drive, Penang
Yee Sang is not an unco for Chinese as it is a Cantonese-style raw fish salad usually “toasted” during Chinese New Year. If you are tired of local Yee Sang made of coloring snacks, how about European version made of cured salmon, dressed with white truffle oil and sprinkled with black truffle flakes salt? Introducing Deli Menue (GPS: 5.39829,100.32921) – new addition to Automal at Karpal Singh Drive, Penang.
Chinese New Year Buffet & Steamboat @ E&O Hotel
With dual-earner families getting orthodox these days, it is more difficult for family members of three generations gather together during normal days. Even during Chinese New Year, usually those holding “housewife” title will be the “victim” of the reunion dinner. Most of the time, it is better to have the dinner outside to save the hassle of preparing and cleaning the food at home. Eastern & Oriental Hotel (GPS: 5.42361,10033472) can be a reunion dinner place to be considered.
Banh Mi Kitchen 越南法棍
Banh Mi should not be a stranger for those visited Vietnam before. It is a street food consists of Baguette (French bread) stuffed with various ingredients. There were few Vietnamese restaurants in Penang serving the delicacy but with the recent closure of one of our favorites, it had been a while since we had a decent Banh Mi until we met the new Banh Mi Kitchen (GPS: 5.41646,100.32514 ) at Jalan Zainal Abidin, Georgetown, Penang.
The All New Richard Rivalee Nyonya Restaurant @ Rain Garden
Nearly 40 dishes on our table! We almost ordered all dishes in the menu during our visit to the new Richard Rivalee Nyonya restaurant (GPS: 5.43165,100.31221) recently. Note that we practiced zero waste in which we took leftover food home.
Hakkayin x Monkeycup Cafe @ Chow Thye Road, Penang
On Penang island, Hakka cafe is like a needle in a haystack but it does not stop enthusiasts from offering Hakka cuisine at its best. Previously was Monkeycup Cafe serving Thai and Western cuisine, the cafe at Chow Thye Road is now rebranded to Hakkayin x Monkeycup Cafe (GPS: 5.42560,100.32130) serving mainly Hakka cuisine and gourmet coffee. We were there one quiet Saturday afternoon for the signature Yong Tau Fu and Hakka Mian to name a few…

Clay @ Summerskye, Penang
Clay (GPS: 5.29892,100.26714) is one of first few restaurants opened in Summerskye near to Penang International Airport. Parking-wise, currently it is still free and you may get a space at multi-storey car park as it is usually hard to find parking in front of the shop. Just drive all the way to the end of ground level car park, park your car there and there is an exit leading you to Clay.
