If our memory serves us well, this is probably our second time visiting the family- and kids-friendly Golden Sands Resort by Shangri-La (GPS: 5.47631,100.25124) operated since year 1979. Instead of jumping into their signature swimming pools, we visited its Garden Cafe for “Around The World” buffet dinner.

Assam Laksa is a no stranger to Penangites as it is probably the most popular hawker food other than Char Koay Teow. The sour and spicy soup noodle mainly made of fish and tamarind (a.k.a assam in Malay) is also our favorite food. Fried Laksa, however, is an eye-opener for us. Tired of commercialized chicken rice with arrogant attitude, we decided to try modern cafe in Ipoh instead. JJ Cafe (GPS: 4.58354,101.09360) is an accidental discovery and it surprised us with its coffee, Swiss roll and more important, the sinful Signature “Siew Yuk” Pasta. Since then, we visited the outlet twice despite 160 km away from Penang.
