We have many rules in our daily life. For restaurants, the most common one are “no smoking” and “no outside food”. Have you ever seen a cafe with 22 rules including “no combing hair”, “no petting (heavy)”, “no beat your child inside the cafe” and “no flirting with staffs”? These rules quickly turned Gathers Cafe at Raja Uda into a famous cafe full of restrictions.

Eam Huat Charcoal Steamboat 炎发火炭炉
Charcoal steamboat reminded me of my family which like to setup charcoal steamboat during Chinese New Year. It is enjoyable but at the same time a lot of preparation and cleaning job to take care of. Luckily for Penangites, all these hassles will be taken care by Eam Huat Charcoal Steamboat 炎发火炭炉 staffs.
Harbour Palace Dim Sum @ Sungai Petani
Dim Sum – a breakfast I like to enjoy. Recently, I was told that there is a new Dim Sum restaurant at Sungai Petani with new “order then cook” concept – Harbour Palace 港湾皇庭. Without further adieu, we gave this new restaurant a try.
[CLOSED] Papa’s Nyonya House
Updated 05-Nov-2013: This restaurant is closed.
If there is one word to describe Nyonya restaurant in Penang, it is – “expensive”. The portion is usually small but charged at premium rate. Papa’s Nyonya House at Sunway Tunas is no exception with price starting from RM10 (Menu available at the end of this post). Fortunately, there is a set lunch menu which worth considering.
Isaac Toast & Coffee @ Queensbay Mall
Update: This cafe is permanently closed.
Located at lower ground floor of Queensbay Mall is a newly opened Isaac Toast & Coffee from South Korea. As the name applied, they serve toast with patty of your choice and infused with imported sweet Isaac Sauce which you won’t find in any other sandwich cafe. It is best accompany with a cup of coffee.
Eighty Tree, George Town, Penang
Recently, there is a type of cafe caught my attention – a type of cafe which looks like gift/handicraft shop with many cute decoration items, such as Eighty Tree cafe which I am going to introduce to you in this post. I couldn’t find its origin nor give it a name until I did some studies on Internet.
Sushi Zanmai Gurney Paragon
Sushi Zanmai is not new in Malaysia. It has 7 outlets in PJ/KL area. For Penang, however, the first outlet is just opened in July 2013 at Gurney Paragon Mall – the new mall in Penang. Like Chinese said, “Sin Jamban Ho Pangsai (New toilet bowl nice to poo)”. People will queue up as early as 11.30am just to try out this new restaurant in Penang. Is it worth the effort? Let’s see.
BBee Park @ The One
The One is a new township project in Bayan Baru opposite of Mayang Mall/D’Piazza. At first, I was quite excited as there were many restaurants opened at that area. After few visits, it quickly became one of the area I tried to avoid due to one major issue – parking problem.
New York Burger
Back in March, I introduced New York Pizza’s charcoal burger. It was just released that time and there was only one New York Pizza outlet at Sungai Dua, Penang. In the blink of eye, New York Pizza has three outlets in Penang now. Since its burger business is getting popular, the owner even registered another company under the name of “New York Burger“.
Street Grill Burger
It was raining day. Imaging driving a water-leaking 21 years old car, all the way from Bayan Lepas area to Gurney Drive (not to mention after gas increased 20 cents), one hand holding a big Pasar Tani umbrella, one hand holding camera. All these hassles are just to introduce you all a new burger stall – Street Grill Burger at Kompleks Makanan Persiaran Gurney.
