Dicken Street Cafe, for example, is another western cafe at Lebuh Dickens, George Town so new that it does not have a signboard when we visited it at the end of August 2013. The cafe opened since May 2013.

Restaurants in shopping malls usually share the same characteristic – they are restaurant chains and can be found across different malls and states. In other words, they are lack of uniqueness especially if you are travelling to a new place and looking for authentic local food. Tian Ding Xiang 天鼎香 at Gurney Plaza, however, is an exception and can easily overlooked by diners.

Wan Tan Mee is a strange food. In Sungai Petani, there are many Wan Tan Mee stalls which usually full of customers even though some of them just tasted average based on my personal taste bud. One of them is slightly low profile’s Sri Wang Wan Tan Mee 老字号斯里旺云吞面 which recently opened its own noodle house at Taman Cengal Jaya.

GohKaki 五脚基, George Town, Penang

Kafe GohKaki 五脚基

Back in old time, at each row of shophouses, there is a five feet width shaded corridor in front of the shophouses for pedestrians to walk around and act as a shelter place during bad weather. In Malay, it is called “Kaki Lima”. I believed that GohKaki 五脚基 Cafe is named as such to act as a shelter for busy workers to relax themselves in nicely decorated and renovated old house.
