Island Red Cafe
Preview: 28/Nov/2008, Review: 30/Dec/2008
You may have seen Old Town Cafe booming out everywhere recently. Island Red Cafe (红岛) is another restaurant of its type. It is located in Krystal Point, on the left of the Krystal Point Hotel. It is adviced to be there around 12PM for lunch or else it may be too crowded with mostly working class. WiFi is provided and you will usually see some people turning their laptop on inside.
Ichyo – One of three musketeers
There are many Japanese restaurants in Bayan Lepas area. If you went to one of them in Krystal Point, namely Sobayoshi, sometimes the host will advise you to go to the one in i-Avenue few meters away if the restaurant is too crowded. Today, we are going to review one of their branches – Ichyo at i-Avenue.
Restoran Yaki Teppan – Probably the most affordable in town
Located same row with Hakka Mee shop is a Japanese restaurant called Yaki Teppan. As the name applies, it is famous with teppanyaki. There is a counter in which chefs are preparing food on metal plates. When the restaurant is crowded, the dining hall may become smoky. The situation, however, seems improving now.
Rou Gu Cha King – Sometimes original is better
Rou Gu Cha (肉骨茶), or also known as Bak Kut Teh in Hokkien should not be a stranger for local Chinese. Once a local Chinese newspaper even conducted a tour to find out the best Rou Gu Cha in Malaysia. Today, we are going to visit a commercialized Bak Kut Teh shop in New World Park, Penang – Rou Gu Cha King.
Taiwan Food – An oasis in the desert
Previously, Midland Park (a.k.a One Stop) at Pulau Tikus, Penang is one of the popular shopping complex in the past. I used to travel from mainland to this complex just to purchase some PC games and DVDs. Recently, most tenants had moved out, including Popular Book Store, Reject Shop, and supermarket. The complex is almost deserted with only few retail shops around.
Ice-cream VS gelato – Example from Maxim’s Penang
Ice-cream, the dessert that everyone love because it is so sweet, and hate because it is so sweet. Now, there is a new type of “ice cream” called gelato. You may know more about it from Wiki but here’s the sumarry.
Sungai Nibong Hakka Mee
If you come from Queensbay Mall to Pantai Jerejak’s roundabout, turn left, take the flyover, and you will reach Sungai Nibong area. On your left after the flyover is a row of shop, including Restaurant Teppan Yaki, and the one we going to review today, Hakka Mee.
Happy Cafe – Happier with Duck Rice and Fried Rice
Located in Taman Pekaka is a Chinese coffee shop called Happy Cafe (新开心饮食中心). It is a corner shop opposite of Tesco Extra and you can easily see it from main road. Usually I park my car in Tesco Extra and walk across the road to save some parking ticket fee.
Sambos Cafe – Good in Side Dishes
Located opposite of USM’s Bukit Gambir’s gate is a luxury apartment called Plaza Ivory. Rental should be expensive and some students are staying there. I wonder if there’s any rich girl staying there….
