We couldn’t remember our last time visiting Penang Hill by train. Recently, we re-visited it again for David Brown’s Restaurant 8th Year Anniversary Promotion -the “Buy 1 Free 1” Set Dinner!
好味锅猪骨火锅 Hou Mei Wo Steamboat
好味锅猪骨火锅 Hou Mei Wo Steamboat has its first outlet opened at Ipoh, followed by first branch at Menglembu and finally, second branch at Elit Avenue, Bayan Baru, Penang. This also marks the second steamboat (hot pot) restaurant in Elit Avenue. We were fortunate enough to visit it on its first day of opening, 1-June-2015.
Ma Ma Tei 麻麻地
Chia Bee Restaurant 佳美河鲜美食馆
Prawn – a dish we seldom order because we are lazy to peel off the shell. We forgot when was our last time having prawn in restaurant, until we visited Chia Bee Restaurant 佳美河鲜美食馆 for a plate of Steamed Giant River Prawn w. Wine 酒蒸大头虾.
Doi Chaang Coffee Ipoh
Our first encounter with Thai coffee was when we were in Changmai for holiday trip in year 2014. We visited Wawee for a cup of coffee while walking near university district. The coffee shop is similar to Starbucks with air-conditioned environment, soft music in the background and WIFI, allowing customers to online for various purposes. Today, we introduce you another Thai coffee – Doi Chaang.
Chiak Penang @ Eastin Hotel Penang
Telur Ikan Masak Lemak – the daily special not found in the menu. This is not an ordinary fish dish as “Telur Ikan” means fish eggs and is cooked with coconut milk. The exotic fish egg has an unfamiliar “sandy” texture in which we believe most of us need some time to adapt to it. This is just one of 70+ dishes found in Eastin Hotel Penang.
La Bella Ristorante
Filleto di Manzo (RM38) – so juicy and tender. Marinated with herbs, the steak is weighted 220g and is imported from New Zealand. This is the highlight of the day at La Bella Ristorante – the Italian restaurant at Leith Street, Penang. By the way, Filleto di Manzo = Beef Fillet. Ristorante = Restaurant. Welcome to Italy.
Beep Beep Q
BBQ is perhaps one of the activities we enjoyed back in school days in which a group of friends bring along raw ingredients, drinks, paper plates/cups, and charcoal to setup fire in an open space or BBQ corner in some apartments. This group activity is getting lesser and lesser as we started working or moving into city. In Penang islalnd, if you miss the smokey chicken, Beep Beep Q is the answer.
Rooted in Nature
While 22 April is Earth Day in the calendar, every day is Earth Day in the Shangri-La Kitchens
Sustainable sources is perhaps a trending keyword among hoteliers nowadays. Our first encounter with this keyword was during our visit to Hotel Jen Penang – one of the Shangri-La’s hotel properties, for its new Italian A la carte menu. Recently, we were invited by Shangri-La’s sister properties – Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa and Golden Sands Resort to witness the global rollout of their culinary sustainability initiative – Rooted in Nature.
The Alley Raja Uda
As long as Japanese food is concerned, our immediate reaction is to order a cup of hot green tea without any thinking. How about sushi with a cup of coffee? You will find this “clash of cuisine” at The Alley, Raja Uda.
