Kang Kong with Shrimp Sauce 咸虾蕹菜 (RM6.00), a specialty you hardly found in any restaurant. Kang Kong was blanched and topped with unique salty dried shrimp paste… my first encounter at Heng Kee/Hing Kee 兴记 restaurant at China Street, Georgetown, Penang.
Indian vegetarian by donation
“We would like to order… eh… uh…?”. It was an embarrassing moment when we were uncertain of most Indian food names on the menu. Fortunately the friendly host walked back to kitchen and randomly selected few items for us. The arrangement was great and the food tasted good.
Where is my chips?
O’Briens Classic Tripledecker at a promotional price of RM10. It consists of 4 triple layer sandwich. Tasted good especially with the addition of chicken crisp in it… but wait… where is my chips?
Do you really need an order kiosk?
Self-service ordering system and a counter LED as seen in public service offices. Basically you queue up in front of that touch-screen monitor, enter food orders, took number, wait your number to be called, take food, eat, and finally pay at the counter before leaving. Question is: Do you really need this system in a small restaurant?

What a juicy big bun 大包! The gravy flew out the moment I peeled the outer layer. In north region of peninsular Malaysia, you hardly see such a juicy Tua Pao ordered by almost every single table in a Dim Sum restaurant. Most people will get irritated after consuming half of it but for Ban Hong Xiang 万鸿香茶楼 in Melaka… one customer, one Tua Pao.
How expensive can a porridge be?
Guess how much is this bowl of seafood instant noodle came with Chinese Silver Pomfret (Tao Tay), two fish balls, two bird eggs, and fish maws? This bowl of seafood was ordered at Joo Leong Cafe 裕隆茶室 at Sungai Tiram (see answer below).

Muar’s Asam Pedas
Other than Otak-Otak, another famous food in Muar is Asam Pedas – a sour and spicy stew dish. Unlike north region’s version, Asam Ikan such as the one above (RM53.00 – market price) was simply sour and spicy. You will start sweating the moment you put a scope into your mouth. We went there for friend’s wedding and were fortunate enough to be treated by the bride in Yu Tou Wang 麻坡鱼头王 restaurant.
Slippery and Chewy “Laksa”
It was a holiday weekend when I stopped by Yi Poh Restaurant 姨婆老鼠粉 at Seremban for the first time to try their Lao Shu Fen (老鼠粉) (RM3.80 Small). At first I thought it was short needle noodle commonly found in north region, but it turned out to be chewy Laksa noodle with slippery characteristic of Lao Shu Fen! A new experience indeed.
Fast Food Redefined
Usually I did not review fast food. However, after visiting 43 Cafe located at Sungai Dua, Penang, I make an exception by introducing you all their homemade pork burger which is prepared fresh daily (Note: This post is non-halal).
