Restaurants in shopping malls usually share the same characteristic – they are restaurant chains and can be found across different malls and states. In other words, they are lack of uniqueness especially if you are travelling to a new place and looking for authentic local food. Tian Ding Xiang 天鼎香 at Gurney Plaza, however, is an exception and can easily overlooked by diners.

Lameizi 辣妹子 @ Krystal Point
Steamboat businesses in Penang island were monopolized by some buffet style restaurants, such that by spending RM20 you can eat all you like. This makes menu + fixed price restaurants hard to survive… other than from quality POV. We were celebrating one of my colleagues’ birthday last month at Lameizi. Let’s see how’s the food looks like.
Fu Wang Special Roasted Duck
Compared to chicken rice shops, duck rice shops are lesser in Penang. Other than the shops I visited in Taman Pekaka (here and here), there is another one at Hutton Road (after KissA Koyotei), namely Fu Wang Special Roasted Duck (富煌烧腊饭).
Chu Yoke Weng is selling duck in Penang
“Chu Yoke Weng” is a real Chinese martial art character under a famous sifu called Huang Fei Hong (黄飞鸿). Initially he is a butcher selling pork. In Penang, however, you can see a restaurant with his name and surprising their main dish is Pi Pa Duck. It is located at Jalan Pekaka (opposite to Tesco Extra) and is called 猪肉荣琵琶鸭专卖店 in Chinese.
