淡水现烤古早味鸡蛋糕 Tam Sui Old Taste Cake Of Taiwan
After Japanese cheese cake, Old Taste Cake a.k.a 鸡蛋糕 (Ji Dan Gao) from Tamsui 淡水 of Taiwan is now trending in Penang/Kuala Lumpur, from the one reproducing the recipe to the one franchising from Taiwan. Each of them is trying to grab a piece of cake while it is still hot. Either case, they share a common phenomenon – a Mekong river-long queue. Today, we bring you to Kulim for “Tam Sui Old Taste Cake Of Taiwan” (GPS: 5.37639,100.53808) – probably the first Taiwan-style fluffy old taste cake in Malaysia.
Crispy Pi Pa duck and QQ Pan Mee
Previously I introduced KhunThai. Today, I introduce its younger brother – Hun Tai, which selling only two items – Pan Mee and Pi Pa Duck. We went to this restaurant in Lunas in our recent Kulim eating trip.
Hidden Gem in Kulim
If you were a chef, what you will do after retiring? Some may just sit at home and play with kids. For Derek, this is not the case. Hidden in one of the villages in Kulim is a resident house converted to western restaurant, namely Derek’s – Passion for Food. I was told that the chef was once a hotel chef in Penang island.
Kemunting Lake View Restaurant
More well known of mainland’s freshwater fish restaurant, Kemunting Lake View Restaurant was located in Kulim, Kedah. I had my lunch with my colleagues last month in this restaurant. He recommended this place as it had less flies (compared to another restaurant nearby) and the fishes had no earthy taste even they were caught from lake below.
Laksa Kelang Lama
On 10/Oct, a group of floggers did a crazy thing… visited three restaurants in one day (this reminded me of an old video clip in which the crazy guys visited 23 locations in 24 hours for 25 food in Penang… let’s do it one day, floggers). Getting back to business, one of the locations we visited that day was the famous laksa in Kelang Lama, Kulim. Let’s see how’s the laksa tasted like compared to the one in Penang.
